School Rules
In order to ensure a safe environment for children, Meadowbrook Learning Center has a few rules to follow and with your help, these rules will be much easier to enforce. Please take a few minutes and go over the following rules with your child:
- Follow directions and be good listeners
- Playing with weapons is unacceptable.
- No chocolates, candy, or gum.
- No removing shoes without teacher's permission (naptime, sandbox, and dress-up are acceptable times)
- Please leave your child's toys at home or in the car unless it's sharing day (every Thursday & Friday). But feel free to bring labeled books to share with others at anytime.
Discipline
Our philosophy on discipline consists of reinforcing positive behavior rather than emphasizing the negative. Children are encouraged to verbalize rather than "act out". The staff at Meadowbrook Learning Center handles problem behavior by using the steps below:
- Make it clear to the child that it is the behavior, not the child that is unacceptable.
- Redirect attention.
- Talk about that specific behavior; encourage the child to express their feelings.
- Determine consequences with the help of a staff member. Children are encouraged to come-up with possible solutions to their problems.
- The last resort is "time out", for bad language or aggressive hurtful behavior such as hitting, kicking, biting, spitting, or scratching. If necessary, a staff member will sit next to the child to calm them down.
Rest Time
It is required that parents provide a labeled pillow and blanket for your child's comfort at naptime. Please remember to take them home weekly to be laundered.
Children are required to rest for at least one hour and quiet activities are provided for non-nappers.
Food Service
Since we are concerned with the complete development of your child, we feel that good nutrition is essential! It is the policy at (MLC) to provide nutritious snacks both in the morning and afternoon. Parents are to send their child's lunch to school in a labeled lunch box or bag. We will refrigerate or warm lunches if needed. Please remember our policy of no candy, gum, or chocolate and pack lunches accordingly.
We provide milk for all children at lunchtime, and also provide cereal between the hours of 7:00 am and 9:00 am.
We celebrate birthdays during snack time. If you wish to bring a special snack for your child's birthday, please let us know in advance for scheduling purposes.
